** A riad is a traditional Moroccan house built around an interior garden or courtyard with no windows or balconies facing the street, a typical Islamic architecture designed to maximise family privacy from the outside world.  Original riads are beautiful family homes once belonged to rich local merchants.  Many have been restored and converted into "boutique guesthouses".  However, since these properties were built for the purpose of private homes, they cater only for small group tours.  A stay in the Riad is a uniquely Moroccan experience in itself!  It's one of the many highlight of a Morocco trip that not to be missed.
